Gould’s Single Mode Wavelength Independent (dual window /dual band) 1X3 and 1×4 truly fused fiber optic star couplers (WICs) & optical splitters can be used to split light from one fiber to two or combine light from two fibers to one and provide high performance across a broad wavelength region (from 1270nm to 1590nm). WIC couplers are ideal for use in two color OTDRs, full duplex transmission on a single fiber, multi-color sensors, and trunk/loop branching. These small devices are insensitive to the operating wavelength and provide low optical loss with high directivity.
These high quality fiber optic components are manufactured using the fused biconical taper process on fully software controlled automatic fabrication stations. The process consists of placing two or more fibers adjacent to each other, then fusing and stretching them to create a central coupling region. A fused coupler is a structure formed by two independent optical fibers. Please visit our Fused Biconical Taper (FBT) page for more information.
Gould Fiber Optics uses our patented GlasSolder process for making a glass to glass bond between optical fibers and silica substrate. This technique produces a uniform “solder” bead that affixes the fiber to the substrate to provide exceptional longevity in mechanical and environmental stability.
Gould’s Single Mode Wavelength Independent (dual window /dual band) 1X3 and 1×4 truly fused fiber optic star couplers (WICs) & optical splitters are manufactured using Corning SMF-28® Fiber and available in various coupling ratios such as 20/40/40, 30/35/35, 33/33/33, 40/30/30, 50/25/25, 60/20/20, 70/15/15, 80/10/10, and 25/25/25/25 with operating wavelengths spanning 1270-1590nm.
